Just hours after the New York Film Critics Circle announced their winners, the inaugural nominees for the first Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Awards were announced at a luncheon in Sydney. Taking over for the former Australian Film Institute Awards, AACTA has been placed in the middle of the awards giving season. Some interesting results, with Sleeping Beauty only scoring a couple of production nods, and Face to Face scoring only one nomination for supporting actor. Leading with 14 nominations is The Hunter, followed by The Eye of the Storm on 12, and Snowtown on 10.
