With each year’s Oscar ceremony comes months worth of commentary over the success (or failure) of the host. As the debate is already heating up over who will host next year’s ceremony, we take a look at the complete listing of Oscar hosts since the very first ceremony and who has hosted more than once.

Eyes were cast particularly over this year’s host Chris Rock in the midst of the #OscarsSoWhite fiasco. Rock managed to pull in some help from former Oscars host (and only host to have won an Oscar prior to the telecast) Whoopi Goldberg and what many are calling future Oscars host Kevin Hart, among others including Oscar nominee Angela Bassett (Best Actress; What’s Love Got to Do With It) and the recently polemic Clueless star Stacey Dash. As opinion continues to weigh in, more and more is considered. Despite an 8-year ratings low, Rock was condemned and commended for his on-point observations about race.
