Film Synopsis: Set in Dublin during the ‘80s, in John Carney’s (Once, Begin Again) Sing Street, 15-year-old Conor (Ferdia Walsh-Peelo) is deemed an outcast at his new Christian school. Struggling to forge friendships, he claims to be a singer in a band to impress the slightly older Raphina (Lucy Boynton), an aspiring model. Before long, with the help of a few classmates he wrangles, he indeed does escape his strained familial and school life by starting a band, the titular Sing Street. With a charming cast and filled feel-good musical numbers, Sing Street is less a coming-of-age work as it is an exposition of the youthful optimism and creative energy channelled through our peers.
