Hop
The perfect film for young and old, cheesy in parts but has the feel good factor. Let’s face it all movies featuring bunnies are likely to appeal to the younger audience. The voice of the main character, E.B is played by Russell Brand. E.B is supposed to be taking over the role of the Easter Bunny from his father (voiced by Hugh Laurie) but decides to hop off to Hollywood instead to start a rock band. Yes the story is a little wacky and a little reminiscent of Alvin and The Chipmunks.
Jesus Of Nazareth
Jesus Of Nazareth was released in 1977 and was originally adapted for TV. Although it was made for TV, the series attracted a whole host of Hollywood actors including Laurence Olivier, Olivia Hussey, Christopher Plummer, Peter Ustinov and James Earl Jones.
Six hours long, the film was originally shown in two, three hour slots on psalm Sunday and Easter Sunday. The adaptation was very well received. It was refreshing to see Jesus, the son of God portrayed as more human. It also portrayed the politics, economy, social and religious hierarchy in biblical times very well.
The film is slow in parts, but has some brilliant scenes of acting. It is well worth a watch and will remain an Easter classic for years to come.
Ben Hur
Ben Hur was released in 1959 and is considered to be an epic film. The film has been awarded 11 Academy Awards, one being for best picture. The film portrays the birth of Christ right up to until his death. Charlton Heston plays Judah Ben Hur and the film features the now famous chariot race. If you’ve got four hours spare you are in for a treat, packed with battle scenes, amusing dialogue and a few awkward love scenes. Ben Hur should be in everyone’s list of “must watch” films.
