Top 5 Duelling Lightsabers Scenes From Film And TV

When people think about Star Wars, perhaps one doesn’t simply forget the most iconic line in the history of movies ever which is ‘I am your father.’ True enough, Darth Vader’s sudden blow to Luke may have been more painful than having his hand cut off.  Also, Mark Hamill’s top-tier acting skills are surely the cherry on top of this already exciting cake.

While this may be an unfortunate situation for the young Skywalker, it sure did bring fans from all over the world to an emotional rollercoaster. Just like all the enigmatic scenes from the franchise, this sudden twist to the story is preceded by none other than a lightsaber battle scene. If you want to feel like a Jedi, Galaxy Sabers offer a 1-year warranty deal so you might want to check them out as well as other lightsaber providers.

Lightsaber duels are a staple to any Star Wars show, be it in film or on TV. The footwork, the acrobatics, and the trail of light from the sabers are undoubtedly a feast to any fan. Coupled with the banters of the characters, no one can resist the action-packed scenes from the series.

As there is a copious amount of battle scenes from Star Wars, here are the top five dueling lightsabers scenes from film and TV that fans and nonfans alike will enjoy.

  1. Darth Maul And Savage Opress Versus Darth Sidious From Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 5

Nothing is more common in the Star Wars universe than a master and pupil going against each other. While some fans are emotionally reserved on that, the symbolism of a student overcoming their master just gives another layer of flavor to scenes like these.

After Darth Maul’s failed attempt on deceiving Sidious, and Sidious flinging him and his brother against the window in Mandalore, these three rushing at it is such a delight in the eyes.

Although Sidious overpowers the two Dathomirian brothers, what makes this scene epic is their unfettered and coordinated attacks, which makes sense since they’re brothers. Also, Darth Sidious stabbing Savage from his back is just a chef’s kiss. It’s worth noticing that Sidious was smiling the entire time.

  1. Rey Versus Kylo Ren From Star Wars: Episode VII The Force Awakens

In comparison to other battle scenes, this may be a bit underwhelming. But what Rey and Kylo Ren’s battle scene lacks in combat satisfaction, it makes up for the goosebumps most fans have felt when Rey used the Force to pick up Anakin’s lightsaber. Plus, the entire film was just symbolic, since this sequel was such a massive hit.

Sure, fans are divided on team Rey and team Kylo on this scene, and others on Team Finn. Although whether Kylo should have rightfully won against Rey or not, this battle scene is undeniably monumental. The visual and sound effects are top-notch as it redefines what a lightsaber duel looks like. Also, props to Finn for actually wounding Kylo’s shoulder.

  1. Darth Maul Versus Obi-Wan From Star Wars Rebels: Season 3

Here’s to yet another battle featuring the ferocious Darth Maul and the ever-famous Obi-Wan Kenobi. Indeed, Darth Maul had been through countless exciting and epic battles but this particular scene with Obi-Wan in the desert of Tatooine was more serene and calm.

With just an exchange of banters and a few sharp glances, Maul loses his life to Obi-Wan, just like Qui-Gon did with him. While there’s just three exchange of blows that happened during the scene, what transpired after is the reason why this sits in number three.

The meaningful and merciful way of Maul’s death gives contrast to how he usually was in the battles that fans have seen him in. If you can remember, the same stance that Darth Maul used to stun Qui-Gon was the same stance that he used right before he lost his life.

  1. Darth Vader Versus Luke Skywalker From Star Wars: Episode V The Empire Strikes Back

Darth Vader’s skirmish against young Luke Skywalker was both satisfying, battle and plot-wise. It could easily be one of the iconic battle scenes in Star Wars. Darth Vader telling Luke the words, ‘the Force is with you, young Skywalker, but you are not a Jedi yet,’ perhaps made fans feel things they haven’t felt before.

Things just went a notch higher when they had a full confrontation. When Darth Vader gave Luke the news, fans knew the entirety of his life had just been slapped at his face. The man that he looked up to, whom he thought was killed by Vader, was Darth Vader himself.  From that point onwards, most of the things that Luke did make perfect sense.

  1. Darth Vader Versus Ahsoka From Star Wars Rebels: Season 2

Perhaps you’re wondering or not, but there’s a valid reason Ahsoka’s duel against Vader is in the number one spot instead of Luke’s and Vader’s. Ahsoka Tano, Anakin’s padawan, is perhaps the most well-developed character in the Star Wars franchise.

Her relationship with Anakin goes beyond that of a master and student and it’s similar to a friend or even a family. Vader and Ahsoka’s lightsaber duel in the Sith Temple features an overwhelming amount of excitement, nostalgia, and sadness.

Furthermore, their exchange of dialogue and Snips telling Vader that she’ll never leave her again just gave desolation a new look.

In a nutshell

Star Wars, in the most straightforward description, is a masterpiece. The characters, the plot, and the twists are insufficient to describe the well-justified hype for the series. With all other battle scenes across films and TV shows, the emotions and character backstories make them all worthwhile.
