TV Review: Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries, Episode 6

This is the best instalment for the romantic at heart of the whimsy Miss Fisher’s Murder Mysteries.

A glammed-up night at the theatre turns into murder when two actors are killed on stage, although predictable, the episode is fun and involves stage songs, mysterious notes, ghosts, superstitions, axe throwing, alley way kung fu, ancient Chinese curses and a direct death threat to our beloved Miss Fisher (Essie Davis).

Lucky for us, Detective Jack (Nathan Page) saves Miss Fisher from a falling sandbag by tackling her in an awesome sexy hero kind of way.  Also, having realized the greatness of his hair, he finally took off that bloody wide rimmed abomination so now we can think inappropriate thoughts about him and have a visual to match!

Most excitingly though, is Collins (Hugo Johnstone-Burt) and Dot (Ashleigh Cummings) finally having a full on pash in the cutest display of love this side of the sun. There were tears of happiness on this end. Don’t tell anyone. It will be denied.

There’s a real sense that Jack is falling for our beautiful lady detective, tonight he is protective, charming and shows a streak of jealousy much to Miss Fisher’s delight.  It’s so lovely to see the man with a different emotion other than jerk.

The only strange thing about this episode is getting a non-chinese actor to play a Chinese role which seemed, obviously, less than authentic and frankly a bit odd.  It’s great to get back to the main love interests tonight and to watch them bloom, however slowly, the audience is enjoying the progression of the characters at last.

Miss Fisher also shows us self-doubt for the first time it’s a good feeling to know she’s actually human instead of the overly confidant charmer she appears to be all the time.  Could it all be an act? Best get Detective Jack onto it, he’ll hopefully be able to find the real Miss Fisher and take full advantage of her. For the storylines sake.  Of course.
