This week episode of The Doctor Blake Mysteries titled ‘If the Shoe Fits’ is a bit of an improvement on last week’s dismal bore fest. There’s murder, a minced hand in industrial equipment and syphilis. Yes, syphilis. After a shoe factory worker is murdered his list of enemies grows as he is revealed as a rapist who is illegally obtaining money from migrant workers. On top of that he’s given several of the women in the factory syphilis. It’s no wonder someone killed him!
Guest starring Jacek Koman, best known for his role in Moulin Rouge as a narcoleptic leading man, this week Lucien (Craig Mclachlan) must find the killer and then let her go due to insufficient evidence. Jean (Nadine Garner) auditions for a play and after one meeting with a gentleman called Robert she is worried that he is going to ask for her hand in marriage! Now, I know the times were different then but really? After one meeting? He wasn’t even a hottie!
Lucien on the other hand shows some passion when asked if he’s sleeping with Joy, his journalist friend who has now magically appeared back from Melbourne. His reply of ‘No, but I’d like to’ is about as hot as it gets for this ABC drama. Tut tut Lucien you naughty boy.
There seems to me only two ways of fixing this series.
- Craig McLachlan getting his gear off and passionately making love to Jean
- Jason Donovan
Now, on the outset I understand that step two may seem a tad drastic but Jason would add further eye candy, charm and possibly a competition for best beard (If he looks the same as he did in MDA but with a 1950’s suit and hat).
The storylines outside the murders are just so bloody slow. There are only four episodes to go and at this rate Lucien may consider holding a stare a Jean for a moment too long and that will be the payoff we’ve all been waiting for. Look, get Craig’s suit off and make him say charming things whilst standing, only a white towel drinking whiskey. That’s what we need people. Some nudity and a good drink. Now, let’s hope it happens.

I, for one, thought the guy playing Robert was quite a hottie! But that’s just my opinion. Much less oafish than Blake.
